We have been busy getting the group organized from last semester. We met the first Tuesday this month to discuss secession. Today, we were on the radio with RJ Richards at 1310 KNOX AM to talk about the group and our upcoming meeting being held on Tuesday, March 1 at the E. Grand Forks VFW. The subject of that meeting will be Abraham Lincoln, discussing his life up through the first inaugural in 1861. It was fun and if we are able to get a copy of the segment, we will try to post it.

First meeting of the Roundtable held last night

Tonight was the first meeting of the Northern Plains Civil War Round Table, held at the VFW Post in East Grand Forks, MN. Fellow graduate student, and the founder of the group, Stuart Lawrence gave a presentation, including slide show and soldier equipment, on the Zouaves in the Union Army. The presentation was quite detailed, as Stuart talked about several regiments of Zouaves, providing a great introduction to the subject of Zouaves in the Civil War. Nine of us gathered together for this first meeting. I will post pictures of the first meeting in the next day or so. We will begin creating a newsletter, which will be available via email and in print. We will also be setting up a Youtube account and hope to begin posting meetings online for those interested that are unable to attend to take part in the group. The next meeting of the Northern Plains Civil War Round Table will be May 25 at 7:00 PM at the East Grand Forks, MN VFW Club. More information will be forthcoming.

Welcome to the website and blog for the Northern Plains Civil War Round Table (NPCWRT). This group is being formed and the site is under construction, so check back for updates. This group is comprised of those of us living in and around Grand Forks, North Dakota, who have a professional or personal interest in the American Civil War. More information will be posted in the coming days, as we get the organization off the ground.
